Laura Light

PLAYING EXPERIENCE:
After moving to Indiana from Alabama, Laura began playing volleyball with a local team and fell in love with the sport. She later joined the MCAC Wildcats, where she was a float player between JV and Varsity as an 8th grader before going on to play four years at the Varsity level. During her playing career, she served as a captain at both the JV and Varsity levels.
Laura’s love for volleyball continued beyond high school and into adaptive forms of the sport. She played on the Developmental Team for USA Sitting Volleyball and hopes to get back into playing sitting volleyball again. More recently, she has competed in Para Beach Standing Volleyball, where her team took first place in a tournament a few years ago.
Laura had shoulder surgery in May and is looking forward to getting healthy and back on the court
COACHING EXPERIENCE:
Laura began coaching during her senior year of high school when she was asked to help coach the elementary team in her volleyball program. It was through that experience that she discovered her love for coaching.
After graduating, she continued coaching within the program and eventually became the head coach of the JV team. For the past two seasons, Laura has served as the Head Coach of the KCHE Eagles High School volleyball program in Warsaw. From coaching elementary athletes to leading a high school program, Laura loves helping players grow in their skills, confidence, understanding of the game, and love for volleyball.
PERSONAL:
Laura lives in New Paris with her husband, Caleb, and their mini Goldendoodle, Nico. She currently works full-time as a 911 dispatcher.

Laura was born with fibular hemimelia, which led to the amputation of her left foot at 14 months old. She received her first prosthetic leg at 18 months old, and growing up with a prosthesis has never slowed her down and has opened the door to some pretty incredible experiences. She has had opportunities to mentor other amputees, travel for adaptive sports and events, surf in both California and Hawaii with Bethany Hamilton, and continue her love of volleyball through para disciplines.

While work and volleyball takes up much of her time, Laura also enjoys going to church, photography, drawing/painting, and hiking whenever time allows.

Fun fact: Laura is one of 12 siblings and is a twin! Volleyball also runs in the family—one of her sisters is a coach, too!
